Triple Helix Workshop
“Building the Entrepreneurial University”
9-13 July 2012 and 12-16 November 2012
Organized by the Triple Helix Research Group,
Human Sciences and Technologies Advanced Research (H-STAR) Institute,
Stanford University
The Triple Helix Research Group at Stanford University’s Human Sciences and Technologies Advanced Research Institute (H-STAR) announces a new initiative for 2012: the Triple Helix Workshop Series that will start with the five-day intensive workshop “Building the Entrepreneurial University”. The event will be held on Stanford campus, at the heart of Silicon Valley – the world’s leading innovation and high-tech hub, on 9-13 July and 12-16 November 2012.
Who can participate?
The workshop is targeted primarily at individuals and groups interested to learn about key issues in Triple Helix (university-industry-government) collaboration and the advancement of entrepreneurial universities. The event is particularly suited for higher education and innovation leaders, university managers, faculty members and professional staff, academic evaluation and accreditation managers and practitioners, postgraduate students, technology transfer managers and practitioners, government policy-makers at regional and national level, innovation and higher education consultants, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, business angels, etc. Participants will join a vibrant platform for dialogue between innovation scholars and practitioners, meant to advance knowledge and create new bridges for collaboration.
Programme
The workshop provides deep insights into each strand of the Triple Helix through lectures, presentations and panels involving Stanford and other US and international university faculty, innovation researchers and practitioners. The “University” helix is exemplified through a discussion of Stanford University’s most important entrepreneurial initiatives and visits to interdisciplinary research centres, business incubators/accelerators, etc. The “Industry” helix focuses on key Silicon Valley firms and business accelerators, as well as on some major venture capital firms and business angels. The “Government” helix introduces the most important US and California State Innovation policies and programmes, as well as the work of relevant Silicon Valley innovation players. A prospective look into future developments of the Triple Helix model will be given through a foresight exercise involving innovative techniques. The workshop also provides an overview of the inner workings of Silicon Valley, the world’s leading innovation and high-tech hub. We also offer a rich social programme, including a Welcome Reception, a Gala Dinner with live music performance, a barbecue, and off-site trips including wine tasting or whale watching.
